Why Worry? Phillipians 4:6

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:6, 8 NLT)

I’m so grateful for the simple things in life. My over analyzing brain often has its wheels spinning to the point of indecision. It’s comical that I actually am literally paralyzed, because I feel like it’s not the physical paralysis that gets in the way of a life well lived – it’s the emotional, the mental, it’s often my own mind. Thankfully, we have scriptures like this one to roll us and snap us back to the the unseen reality. I know what to think on…it is Him.

Good For More Than The Brain

In past years I liked to take on a chapter of scripture.  Just one chapter…not two or three…to memorize and master.  It’s a habit my pastor started us on years back.  Well, I guess we sometimes get bored of a routine and need a change because I noticed myself getting lazy about my focus on my memory work for a few years.  That is why I was excited to jump on a new system for the year…I joined up with one of my favorite teacher’s blog followers to memorize two verses a month.  I sent out an email to recruit friends to do it with me, and two responded.  One of them is still working on it with me, but I’m hoping for more next year.

Maybe you will consider joining me.  It’s a ‘pick your own verse’ situation – although you would be welcome to join me in my verse.  My friend, Naomi, let’s me choose, she’s a better delegator than I am.  In fact, it’s time for me to pick a new verse…ahhh let’s see…OK, I’m back…

All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
Psalm 38:9 NIV

Come on, join me, if not now, in January 2012.  Good for the brain and good for the spirit and soul.

Moving Ahead – Isaiah 43:18-19

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isa. 43:18-19

I love this verse as it gives me encouragement in new beginnings. We can’t live in the past even though our past effects us.  No matter what age or stage we are currently walking or running or wheeling through, there is a newness about today.  A freshness can be found even in our difficulties.

This was one of my memory verses this year – February’s first verse in 2011.  You can read about my memorization plan for the year here.

Abraham Lincoln Said…

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”
– Abraham Lincoln

Isn’t this so true?  I get it.  We all have this dream to live long lives and see our kids and grandkids grow up.  I don’t have kids, but I have friends and family I want to grow older with.

As I get older – hey, I’m not that old – I find myself more concerned about things that count. My family members and their spiritual and physical health are regularly on my heart. Spending time with friends and helping when and where possible is more intentional.

Hoping.

Making a difference.

Lending a hand.

Encouraging.

Cheering.

Praying.

Loving.
